About

About this website

International students in Christchurch have requested an anonymous online reporting website. In response, we are trialing this website in 2008 where students can report when people in Christchurch do or say hurtful things to them because they are different.

We welcome any information you give us.

About harassment

What is harassment?
In New Zealand it is against the law to say or do hurtful things to people based on the idea that they are different. This kind of behaviour is called harassment or bullying. Examples of this can include insulting you about the way you talk, the clothes you wear, where you come from, and the way you look.

Racial harassment
If insults and aggressive behaviour target someone’s ethnic or cultural background, this is called racial harassment.

Religious harassment
If such negative comments or behaviour are based on religion, this is called religious harassment.

Why is it good to report incidents of harassment?

You can help us work against this kind of behaviour by reporting it. When harassment is reported, the information can help authorities like the Christchurch City Council, the Human Rights Commission and the Police prevent other people from behaving this way, and so help to make others safer. You can report without anyone knowing who you are, or what your name is. Your report will still be valuable.

What happens to any information you give us?

The answer will depend on you, and what you decide.

The information that you give here will be recorded by the Human Rights Commission and used to help make changes in the future to help keep others safe.

This information can not be used to cause you any trouble or problems, if you are doing your best to tell the truth.

If you wish, you can write your name and ask for someone to contact you to talk about it, and perhaps try to find the person who did it. But your name will not be attached to the information if you do not want it to be.

If you would like to be contacted, please fill in the form so that someone can offer you support. If you would like support, but do not wish to fill in this form, please contact us.
